Tomorrow or Today, not sure when you will be reading this, is the beginning of the Indian premier league of the year 2021.

So for starters, if you don't know about IPL it is my pleasure to explain it to you. So IPL or Indian Premier League is the professional cricket league in India. It follows the T20 format also called the Twenty-twenty or 20-20 format where the game has a total of  20 overs per innings.

This league is played between March and May of every year. IPL was started by the BCCI. Generally, there are eight teams that represent different states or cities in India.

The first edition of the game was played in 2008 and the last edition was in 2020 and the current edition is 2021 which is about to start on 9th April.

The formats used in the league are the Round-robin format and the Play-offs format.

A quick fun fact.

IPL is one of the most attended cricket leagues in the world. In fact, in 2014 it was given a sixth place in terms of average attendance among all sports leagues in the world.


There are many awards and prizes in this league. Two of the important ones are the ORANGE CAP AN PURPLE CAP.

The orange cap is given to the player with the most runs and the purple cap is for the player with the most wickets in this tournament.
