Since I am not a doctor or anyone in the medical field I cannot go deep into this topic but I can give basic and short and sweet info about skin cancer, its types, and other little information regarding skin cancer.

"Like I said in my previous blog if you have any doubt regarding your health it is best to go to a real doctor instead of googling the symptoms or coming to your own conclusions that you have a serious disease. Avoid this at all cost." ---- That's why it's highlighted 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

I am sure this will help you in some way. I also mentioned some of the questions like
Is skin cancer curable? and
Is skin cancer deadly?
Can it kill you?
and skin cancer prevention and
what does skin cancer do? And some of the other widely asked questions.

1) INTRODUCTION

SKIN cancer is the uncontrolled growth of cells within the skin. There are 3 main types of skin cancer and they are

  • BASAL CELL CARCINOMA
  • SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA
  • MELANOMA.

Cancer cells can sometimes spread from one part of the body to other parts which can be very dangerous but this type of case is very rare. When cancer moves from one place to another it is called METASTASIS.

AS many of you may know skin is divided into 3 layers and they are

  1. EPIDERMIS
  2. DERMIS
  3. HYPODERMIS

The Hypodermis is made of fat and connective tissue that connects the skin to the muscle.

The Dermis contains hair follicles, blood vessels, and nerves.

The Epidermis is the outermost layer. The epidermis itself is made of multiple layers of skin which is mostly keratinocytes named after the keratin protein they are made with. Keratin is a strong fibrous protein that allows keratinocytes to protect themselves from getting destroyed like rubbing hands or something like that.

Now cancer develops if there is a DNA mutation in any of these cells leading to uncontrolled cell division.

These are mutations of proto-oncogene which cause promotion of cell division or TUMOR SUPPRESSOR GENES leading to loss of inhibition Of cell division. Therefore it means that one causes uncontrolled growth of cells and the other causes the inability to stop the growth of cells.

As result, the cancer cells start piling up in place and can cause tumor mass. Some of the tumors are benign (i.e) they are well contained, and they do not spread to nearby tissues and other body parts but in some cases, they can become fatal cancer or tumor.

These cancer cells can sometimes break through the basement membrane and invade the nearby tissues and can enter the bloodstream or other body parts. This can cause the development of tumors or cancer in other regions of the body known as the secondary site of cancer. This is known as METASTASIS

2) THE TYPES OF SKIN CANCER

There are basically 3 main types of skin cancer differentiated based on the type of skin cells it involves.

1. BASAL CELL CANCER
2. MELANOMA
3. SQUAMOUS CELL CANCER

Now we will look at the short descriptions of these types

(a) BASAL CELL CANCER

basal cell author-Nephron https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/deed.en

This is a type of cell cancer that begins in the basal cells. Basal cells produce new skin cells as the old cells die. Limiting sun exposure can prevent these cells from becoming cancerous

COMMON SYMPTOMS

This cancer typically appears as a white waxy lump or a brown scaly patch on sun-exposed areas such as the neck and face. These rarely spread beyond the original tumor site. But if allowed to grow these will be disfiguring and dangerous.

(b) MELANOMA

(available in the public domain)

This is the most serious type of skin cancer. This type of skin cancer can occur when pigment-producing cells that give color to the skin become cancerous but it is curable with proper treatment when detected early.

But when it grows deeper into the skin or other body parts it will become difficult to treat and more dangerous.

COMMON SYMPTOMS

New, unusual growth or change in an existing mole. This can usually occur anywhere in the body. People may experience bigger mole diameter, darkening of the skin, mole color change, or moles with irregular borders.

(c) SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA

This is caused by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal squamous cells. This type of cancer is not usually life-threatening though it can become aggressive when left unnoticed or untreated. This can grow large or spread to other parts of the body. It is said that 2 out of 10 people have this type of cancer
.

COMMON SYMPTOMS

This occurs in sun-exposed areas such as the scalp, back of our hand ear, or sometimes on the lip. But it can occur anywhere in our body.

3) (FAQ) Frequently asked questions

Now thank you for reading this much of this article, till this part, because some people don't. So thank you for that.

Now, this is the FAQ or frequently asked questions that I mentioned above at the beginning of this article. I have included 7 questions and if you want any other questions to be added, mention that in the comments-- continue reading

i) IS SKIN CANCER CURABLE? AND IS SKIN CANCER DEADLY?

The answer to both questions is if it is found and treated at an early stage before it spreads to other parts it can be cured and the crisis can be averted, so if you even have the slightest doubt it is recommended to consult a doctor.

ii) How to reduce the risk of skin cancer?

The most important advice that everyone should follow is that protection from UV rays. This means not only on summer days but every day.
So wear hats when you go out and cover your arms and legs

iii) What causes skin cancer?

One of the common things that cause skin cancer is exposure to uv light from the sun and other man-made sources. Some of the sources of the uv or ultraviolet rays is our sun and tanning machines made by us. This UV light causes damage to our cells and DNA which can build up and cause cancer.

iv) Is skin cancer curable?

Yes, if the cancer is found early and treated it is curable.

v) Is skin cancer deadly?

Like said above if it is treated early at the starting stages of cancer it can be cured but if cancer goes beyond control it can cause serious troubles but not all cancers are fatal like melanoma.

vi) Is skin cancer itchy?

Yes, some cancers can be itchy in some cases.

vii) Is it contagious?

No, generally it is not contagious, the only way it can spread is by organ transplantation or tissue transplantation.

4) MY VIEWS

As mentioned above if you have doubts about your health condition, instead of google please go to a doctor. This article is just to give you a basic insight into skin cancer and its types, skin cancer pictures and symptoms, and causes for education purposes only.

5) CONCLUSION

The common advice that many doctors give is that when you have doubt or if your body reacts in abnormal ways it is better to consult a doctor even when you have the slightest doubt it is better to consult a doctor.

Now the reason that I mentioned this a few times in this article alone, is because I read somewhere that many people google their symptoms and if they see the symptoms of a dangerous disease similar to the symptoms that they are having right now, they tend to get more scared.

Only a doctor can tell the disease you are having is fatal or not since many diseases ( both fatal and non-fatal) have similar symptoms.

So it is advisable to go and consult a doctor instead of google-ing. I hope you would have understood the importance and reason why I mentioned it several times in this article.

Do not try to do anything on your own because it can result in very dangerous results.

Even when you don’t have issues it is better to do a complete checkup to make sure that your body is fine.
